Link Baiting and Human Nature
Other than the fishes, internet marketers these days also fish for links on their websites. Link Baiting has been used by people so that blogs containing their ideas would be accepted by the public. In fact, this kind of popularity gaining scheme has long been employed by people who are planning to draw some attention like politicians. This is also the main idea of link baiting, to get the fame they desire.
The fact of the matter is that, there are just two classes of link baiting; either you choose the good one or the bad one. Of course the good ones are those who make news such as unveiling scams, the main concept of these types are to make headlines which would shock every reader. The bad one on the other aspect is bounded by controversy, and more often than not it is done by ascribing names of public figures in their entries.
They are doing such things not just for the knack of hurting someone, but in reality it is employed for the purpose of gaining good traffic on your site. Most webmasters consider this link baiting concept as illegitimate because its main design is a blackhat method. Despite this reality, webmasters never deny that link baiting causes a profound impact in progressively creating traffic for any blog or website.
For some, the concept of link baiting is not really evil in nature, provided that you employ everything with coordination with the flow of thought that is in your blog. Getting attention is the main idea.
Origin of the term
The term ‘linkbait’ was coined by Aaron Wall from the SEO book in one of his posts in 1995. According to his post, the field where persons are so hooked right now doesn’t have the capacity to create links from nowhere, so the best option is to generate a linkbait.
The moment that you are able to penetrate the link building industry by means of creating write-ups which tackle stuffs about humor, controversy or sometimes just plain information, then that’s the time when you’d be able to include your site on the highest portion of search engine positions.
