Technology Trends Today 1 OF 2
Technology is the application of scientific knowledge into solving practical problems. During medieval times, a simple stone catapult was already considered technology. Fire, metal, pulley, and some lever were examples of tools or simple machines used to easily perform day to day tasks. However, when we hear of the word technology nowadays, what sets in our mind are computers, electronics, gadgets, software and new discoveries.
Originally, technology came out of need. Today technology means options. Options on how you would want to express yourself. Mp3 Players answer the need for music. Cellular phones address the necessity to communicate and socialize. Television makes news, information and the movies readily accessible. We’ve had all these things for more than a decade now and still the demand to innovate continues and the same thing with the upgrades. Let’s get more into the specifics.
Personal Computers. You either have the choice of buying a desktop computer or a laptop. Generally, a desktop computer is much more powerful compared to a laptop. There are more choices for upgrades in a desktop. Desktops can be half the price of a laptop. Simply, the edge of a laptop is its portability. So depending on your usage and lifestyle, choose based on your need.
Software / Applications. Software upgrades are released every year. These upgrades can be minor ranging from increase in compatibility to just fixing bugs or software functionality errors. It can also be major in terms of full scale interface change and addition of completely new features. The variety of applications can range from common music players, file type converters, anti-virus, anti-spyware, word processing, specialty Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, software for developing applications like Java and many more.
PC Peripherals. Size, Specifications and Compatibility. The trend is to get things smaller, more efficient, more compatible and wireless but cheaper.
Websites. More People are into developing websites. Websites can be established for the sole purpose of providing information. Social network services have been a noticeable trend in the internet today. Friendster, Facebook, Multiply, MySpace are just some of them and the list goes on with the different specialty or gimmicks that they thrive on.
Television. Black and white television were first seen in the 1930’s. Back then, sounds weren’t even incorporated. TV back then used a small antenna to receive signals. Now we have cable and colored television. Flat widescreen high definition television is soon coming to become the standard.
Gaming. Believe it or not, the Atari game console was already considered as a 2nd Generation game console. Following the timeline with Famicom, Sega Mega Drive, Playstation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, Dreamcast and Nintendo Gamecube. Today, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii is already considered as 7th generation game consoles. Nintendo’s Wii has so far been the most innovative in terms of gaming since it requires actual physical action inputs from a gamer.
Since the start of the 1900’s, technology has already come so far. During the past few decades it would be observed that technological advancement is becoming faster and faster. Who knows what surprise next year would bring, or better yet the next few months.
