The Importance of Computer Software

Tag: Uncategorizedadmin @ 10:16 pm

A computer is a necessity in today’s society. A computer can be used in all aspects of a person’s life. Primarily it can be used for work or for leisure like sending E-mails, instant messaging, word processing, programming, designing, editing videos and photos and storage for valuable information. A single computer can store as much information as a whole size library. The computer is the ultimate technology at present because it can be used for multiple tasks.

The physical make-up or hardware of a computer is one thing. However, for a computer to be able to perform the way it is expected to, software is needed. In analogy to a human being, software can be likened to his skills and talents. Another thing about software is that it bridges the gap between its human users making computers user-friendly.

Developing Software

Developing software is done by programming. To program we need to speak to computers. Computers use the language of numbers literally. Computers use the number 1 and the number 0 to signify an On or Off instruction. Sending these 1’s and 0’s a billion times in a second makes possible complex instructions like creating images and words. Way before, programming was done using these 1’s and 0’s. As time passed, programming evolved. Now, we have what we call programming languages which is close to our English language.

Software Genres

There are different types of software. Like it or not, when you draw, you are actually programming a shape or a picture using the language created by the software you are using. So with that, we can separate software into several groups.

OS. Operating system. Windows and the Mac are two of the famous operating systems ever produced. An operating system is like a management system type of software. After buying the hardware for your computer, the first thing you install is the OS. Without the OS, installing all the other software easily would be next to impossible.

Word processing. As simple as it may seem like typing words into a document, word processing is software that has already gone a long way in terms of improvement.

Games. Games are usually graphic intensive nowadays. Therefore, games are one of the hardest software to develop. Aside from the technology needed to create smooth graphics, creativity is also a major factor to developing quality game.

Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software. Autocad has really made a big name for itself. Autocad uses 2 dimension drawings to express the different sides of a particular object. But at the coming of the millennium, 3 dimension or 3D drawing has started to be the trend. You can actually create the 3D images already. What’s more is that this software have made a way to simulate actual product saving effort by checking first whether a design is acceptable or not even before the actual fabrication.

Other Software. There are a thousand other software in the market today which serves practically everything you need. There are even software that can help make another software. Technology has made the option limitless.

Technology Trends Today 1 OF 2

Tag: Uncategorizedadmin @ 5:16 pm

Technology is the application of scientific knowledge into solving practical problems. During medieval times, a simple stone catapult was already considered technology. Fire, metal, pulley, and some lever were examples of tools or simple machines used to easily perform day to day tasks. However, when we hear of the word technology nowadays, what sets in our mind are computers, electronics, gadgets, software and new discoveries.

Originally, technology came out of need. Today technology means options. Options on how you would want to express yourself. Mp3 Players answer the need for music. Cellular phones address the necessity to communicate and socialize. Television makes news, information and the movies readily accessible. We’ve had all these things for more than a decade now and still the demand to innovate continues and the same thing with the upgrades. Let’s get more into the specifics.

Personal Computers. You either have the choice of buying a desktop computer or a laptop. Generally, a desktop computer is much more powerful compared to a laptop. There are more choices for upgrades in a desktop. Desktops can be half the price of a laptop. Simply, the edge of a laptop is its portability. So depending on your usage and lifestyle, choose based on your need.

Software / Applications. Software upgrades are released every year. These upgrades can be minor ranging from increase in compatibility to just fixing bugs or software functionality errors. It can also be major in terms of full scale interface change and addition of completely new features. The variety of applications can range from common music players, file type converters, anti-virus, anti-spyware, word processing, specialty Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, software for developing applications like Java and many more.

PC Peripherals. Size, Specifications and Compatibility. The trend is to get things smaller, more efficient, more compatible and wireless but cheaper.

Websites. More People are into developing websites. Websites can be established for the sole purpose of providing information. Social network services have been a noticeable trend in the internet today. Friendster, Facebook, Multiply, MySpace are just some of them and the list goes on with the different specialty or gimmicks that they thrive on.

Television. Black and white television were first seen in the 1930’s. Back then, sounds weren’t even incorporated. TV back then used a small antenna to receive signals. Now we have cable and colored television. Flat widescreen high definition television is soon coming to become the standard.

Gaming. Believe it or not, the Atari game console was already considered as a 2nd Generation game console. Following the timeline with Famicom, Sega Mega Drive, Playstation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, Dreamcast and Nintendo Gamecube. Today, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii is already considered as 7th generation game consoles. Nintendo’s Wii has so far been the most innovative in terms of gaming since it requires actual physical action inputs from a gamer.

Since the start of the 1900’s, technology has already come so far. During the past few decades it would be observed that technological advancement is becoming faster and faster. Who knows what surprise next year would bring, or better yet the next few months.

Learn About Friendster 2 OF 2

Tag: Uncategorizedadmin @ 3:53 am

People in Friendster would search for other people through an installed search engine. This was vital for people who wanted to ‘connect’ with long-lost friends and people with common interests. They may go through this approach, or they can browse through the friends of other friends to locate people to add.

Speaking of adding people to a certain user’s list, people who wish to ‘connect’ with other people in Friendster would do so by adding them as friends directly. However, this may not be applicable at all times, depending on the security settings of a certain contact, and on the degree of the relation between both people. For second-degree or third-degree friends, the site often asks a person about the posted last name or email address of the contact he or she wishes to add. The said data is not necessarily posted publicly, and the person would really have to know the proposed contact to add him or her.

This process of contacting and adding friends have proven to be effective in all aspects over the years. Friendster has been busy in updating the integrity of its servers to accommodate other features for people and their friends to enjoy. Minor additions to communicating with other people have been added. People can send other people a ‘smile’, though this is ultimately just a message with a predetermined subject.

The main changes between now and then, however, can be seen in the additional features that members can enjoy. People now have the ability to post videos straight from video streaming sites like YouTube and the like. Audio streams can also be uploaded to play automatically when a person’s profile is viewed. Html and Css code editing was also enabled for tech savvy members to tweak their profiles even more.

Friendster has been the basis for many other online social networks which have developed over the past few years. This site has ushered the popularity of social networking to the general public.

Learn About Friendster 1 OF 2

Tag: Uncategorizedadmin @ 3:45 am

During the earlier days of the boom of social networking services, there was only one well-known name among many people across the world. Before MySpace and YouTube became famous, internet surfers got acquainted with Friendster.

Friendster was created and developed by Jonathan Abrams. This software engineer who formerly worked for Netscape thought that online dating sites during the time were quite ‘creepy’, and thus he was inspired to develop his own social networking service. The idea of the site back then was to get people to meet other people through the friends and other social connections that they have. In other words, people would meet friends of friends, and effectively make more friends in the process.

The name ‘Friendster’ is a combination of the words ‘friend’ and ‘Napster’, the controversial file sharing program. While Napster enables a user to share information over the internet, Friendster enables a user to make himself or his friends known over the internet.

Over the years, Friendster has had so many changes and additions in terms of user interface and features. The profile, which a majority of ‘Friendsters’ consider as vital to their purpose in the site, used to have a simple layout. People who were members of Friendster since its beginnings can recall how the simple options the site had in terms of profile-building. It simply contained a list of likes and dislikes in media categories, in addition to personal information regarding age, location, and hometowns. People definitely had the option of uploading photos as well, but there was a significant limit determining how many photos a profile can have at one time.

SEO and Search Engine Ranking

Tag: Uncategorizedadmin @ 5:40 am

Much is said about search engine rankings. There are many how-to articles written about this topic. Search engine ranking is also discussed in many forums. But what is this ranking all about and how will a website land on the most coveted top ten ranking?

For an internet marketer, it is hugely important for the website to be included in the 1st or 2nd page of the search result of Yahoo, Google or MSN. This would mean that the website is on the top 10 ranking of the search engine.

Optimizing a website is important so that search engine crawlers can access the content of the website. Failure to do so would mean that the content of the website will not be indexed by the search engines. Simply put, the website will not be included in the data bases.

This would not look good for the business as the website will lose the opportunity to offer the products, service or information to the searchers. There is a big likelihood that web searchers will not be able to access your website when they type in a search query.

Optimizing a website is invaluable for the growth of an online business. A properly organized website once picked up by the search engines will enjoy a continuous flow of organic search engine traffic. And what is more positive about this kind of traffic is that this is absolutely free of charge.

Organic search engine traffic does not need any promotional effort as the visitors in search of products and information will be immediately directed to the website that appeared in the search result page. What is more ideal about organic traffic is the fact that this is a 100% targeted traffic meaning there is a big chance that these searchers will avail of the products or information offered by the website because they have explicitly searched for and used the keywords chosen by the website owner.

Ranking high on the search engine result could be tricky as other websites aim for this too. An online entrepreneur would be wise to take time to optimize the website as SEO is the ultimate tool to achieve high ranking. High ranking results would mean continuing success of an online business.

Through search engine optimization, a website can be properly organized in terms of design, content and navigation. The spiders or crawlers should be considered in designing the website. Spiders can only read text so that if your website is loaded with graphics, pictures, images and fancy animations, there is a good chance that your content will not be indexed as they will not be seen by the crawlers.

Keyword on the title page makes good sense as the search engines determine the relevance of the keyword to the site. The more relevant the keyword, the higher the ranking on the search result. The description of the site should also have a smattering of the best keywords. A word of caution – do not overuse the keywords as you can be penalized by the search engines.

Link Baiting and Human Nature

Tag: Uncategorizedadmin @ 9:26 pm

Other than the fishes, internet marketers these days also fish for links on their websites. Link Baiting has been used by people so that blogs containing their ideas would be accepted by the public. In fact, this kind of popularity gaining scheme has long been employed by people who are planning to draw some attention like politicians. This is also the main idea of link baiting, to get the fame they desire.

The fact of the matter is that, there are just two classes of link baiting; either you choose the good one or the bad one. Of course the good ones are those who make news such as unveiling scams, the main concept of these types are to make headlines which would shock every reader. The bad one on the other aspect is bounded by controversy, and more often than not it is done by ascribing names of public figures in their entries.

They are doing such things not just for the knack of hurting someone, but in reality it is employed for the purpose of gaining good traffic on your site. Most webmasters consider this link baiting concept as illegitimate because its main design is a blackhat method. Despite this reality, webmasters never deny that link baiting causes a profound impact in progressively creating traffic for any blog or website.

For some, the concept of link baiting is not really evil in nature, provided that you employ everything with coordination with the flow of thought that is in your blog. Getting attention is the main idea.

Origin of the term

The term ‘linkbait’ was coined by Aaron Wall from the SEO book in one of his posts in 1995. According to his post, the field where persons are so hooked right now doesn’t have the capacity to create links from nowhere, so the best option is to generate a linkbait.

The moment that you are able to penetrate the link building industry by means of creating write-ups which tackle stuffs about humor, controversy or sometimes just plain information, then that’s the time when you’d be able to include your site on the highest portion of search engine positions.

Social Networking and its role in employment

Tag: Uncategorizedadmin @ 3:41 am

The attempts in ensuring the character and capabilities of a future employee are many. Background checks and other means of confirming the integrity of a prospective employee is now taken to the online world.

Apparently there are a good number of employers who go as far as checking on employees’ lives though their profiles in social networking websites. A survey conducted by vault.com reveals that nearly half (44% to be exact) of all employers resort to examining social networking profiles of potential employees.

What these employers would like to do is to try to know a little bit more on the person that they plan on employing. At times, they may find out that the potential employee have questionable attitudes or behaviors which may pose as a threat or a liability to the company in the long run. According to the same survey, the decision of 82% of employers who are doing this online checking will most probably be affected by what they find.

On the other hand, 39% of those interviewed have also been viewing social networking profiles of current employees in their company. The reason behind this is quite apparent; the overall feel of the profile’s layout can give some ideas on the inner attitude of that employee.

The results presented thus far are more on the employer’s side. However, the same survey had its own parts for the employees of a company.

Apparently many employees are also aware of this “checking” being conducted on them after a job interview. Employees can take certain security measures to ensure anonymity or to build themselves up should an audit be performed. Employees can take precautions such as adjusting the privacy settings on their profiles. A common step here is to enable only first-degree friends to view a person’s profile. Others can resort to editing their profiles shortly before actually stepping out to look for a job.

People who are already employed are also pretty aware that their social networking profiles may be viewed by their boss sooner or later. A good 75% out of all employees surveyed have attested to this. Thus, they make use of the same tactics to make sure that their bosses refrain from doing what they call “creepy boss checks”.

Due to this, it can be possible, therefore, that many applicants will be turned down simply due to wrong words placed in their social network profiles. An employer can go ahead and view a social network profile, however it should not be a significant deciding factor. Employers should only go as far as viewing profiles of future employees, instead of going a little bit further by checking his or her personal messages. Employees on the other hand should be careful to make comments or statements which are more cliché rather than descriptive of who they really are.

Nerve testing

An electromyogram (EMG) is a test primarily used to monitor electrical activity of a muscle. A small needle is placed on the muscles to be tested usually done in chronic cases to determine the level of nerve root involvement. It is also a useful tool for distinguishing between nerve root disease and muscle disease.

A consultation for back pain may not necessarily involve the above diagnostic tests as back pains are usually self-remitting. Pain management may be resolve generally through pain medications and corrective postural measures. But it is always safe to seek medical check-up in cases of chronic pain as it could indicate a more serious underlying causative factor resulting to back pain. And the above-mentioned tests are useful tools in diagnosing what actually causes the chronic pain.
